Miners’ Promise Announces New Chair Laura Benger

Miners’ Promise Board of directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Laura Benger to the position of non-executive chair. Laura served as non-executive director for the past 18 months and takes over from Catherine Milliner who led the organisation since May 2021.

Laura is a highly experienced director, executive and coach with a passion for operational excellence and is committed to driving an aligned purpose throughout the organisations she supports.

Having grown up in mining towns across the Pilbara and North Queensland coalfields and losing a family member to a mining accident, Laura’s connection to Miners’ Promise and the mining industry is very personal and life-long. Laura’s family history in mining spans four generations and includes a great-grandfather, grandfather, father and brother providing Laura with a unique understanding of the challenges faced by families in mining.

Laura would like to thank her fellow Miners’ Promise directors for their tireless efforts and to also thank outgoing chair Catherine Milliner for her dedication and commitment and for her vision to take the organisation from strength to strength.

Laura has a wealth of experience in the resources sector and is the Global Commercial Head of Planning and Projects for BHP. Her vision is to build better organisations through innovation, honest conversations, leadership coaching and leading with vulnerability. She has delivered strong and ambitious outcomes for organisations, demonstrating particular strength in times of organisational transformation and strategic change and she is excited by the future growth opportunities for this unique charity.

Laura holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and bachelor’s degrees in both Science and Psychology. She is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, a certified Prosci Change Practitioner and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Laura is also a non-executive director for The Samaritans.

Established in 2010, Miners’ Promise is a registered charity whose purpose is:

“To support mining and resources sector families and communities in times of crisis; To create opportunities and to support charities, not-for-profits and benevolent purposes in the wider mining and resources regional community; to support these organisations to come together as a means of enhancing community connection, strengthening social capital and encouraging support for community.”
