Who can join?

Miners’ Promise is open to all employees of companies either directly or indirectly involved with the resources sector. You do not have to be working on a mine site, you can be working at a desk in the city, or the office and still contribute to, and benefit from Miners’ Promise.

Are member contributions tax deductible?

We advise members to speak with their accountant to discuss their own personal circumstances. Membership fees to Miners’ Promise may be tax deductible.

Why bother? It’ll never happen to me, I’m always careful.

“She’ll be right.” That’s been the Aussie mantra, but we know that for some, “She won’t be right!”

Consider those you care about, the responsibilities and obligations you may leave and make it right – for them. We know you’re always careful, and we hope it will never happen to anyone. But life sometimes throws us a curve ball. Miners’ Promise was established by people who have lived through the worst, and also spoken to hundreds of others who had struggled through the hard times.  Membership of Miners’ Promise helps you be prepared.

Isn’t this just an insurance policy for when someone gets sick or has an accident?

Miners’ Promise is not an insurer. We are a legacy organisation that goes well beyond a financial “return on your investment” – by providing a connection with real people who can help you or your family through a whole range of measures based on your individual circumstances. We empower your family to determine their needs, with our assistance – we never assume we know best. This may mean arranging care facilities, or a funeral. It may be arranging for cleaning services, booking travel for family, calling friends, or just simply listening.

By becoming a member of Miners’ Promise, you become a valued member of our family. You are committing to not just your own immediate family, but to other families working in the resources sector.

My company has a great Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), so I’m not worried.

EAP’s  are an expected inclusion within any workplace contract, however, as beneficial as they may be for a short-term need, they fall short when confronted with a long-term challenge. We never think it will happen to us, but sometimes it does.

Can my family access the Miners’ Promise services if I am a member?

As a member, Miners’ Promise pledges to assist not just you, but also your immediate family, because we believe in the importance of the family unit and every member within it.

What do I do if I think I need to access the core services?

Contact us, or have someone contact us for you. You can then decide if you would like one of our Family Support Advisors to come to you for a face-to-face meeting. They will undertake an Initial Assessment, which will be based predominantly on your interpretation of your immediate needs. This is about empowering you to be involved in the decision-making process not for us to tell you what we think you need. This will be followed up within one month by a Secondary Assessment Process, where we can adjust the support to meet any changing needs.

How much does it cost to be a member of Miners’ Promise?

Membership for an individual is $8.00 per week. Participating employers (employers who pay membership fees on behalf of all their employees as part of their employee benefits package) receive a discount.

What happens to my membership if I leave my employer?

Membership is transferable. Provided you advise us that you have left your employer and continue to contribute to your membership fees you are eligible to remain a member.

How do I pay for my membership?

Membership is paid via salary deduction or credit card. If we have a relationship with your employer then we can deduct your membership fees through your payroll. Alternatively membership fees may be paid through your credit card.

Do I need to pay my membership fees up front or in advance?

No, at Miners’ Promise we do not lock you in for any period of time. As long as your membership fees remain up to date, you’re a member.

What if I leave the resources industry, can I remain a member?

People who have retired, or are no longer employed within the industry are not eligible for Miners’ Promise membership. Contact one of our friendly staff to discuss your personal circumstances.
