Helen Fitzroy
Helen Fitzroy, author of Just a Number,
describes herself as an ordinary person thrust into the spotlight of
extraordinary circumstances.
In May 1991, Helen's husband, Steven, was killed in a Western Australian underground mining accident and for the first seven years after the accident, Helen focused all her energy on rebuilding a 'normal' life for her three children whilst following through with the legal repercussions of her husband's death.
Now that her three children are grown up and independent, Helen is devoting her time to preventing other families from having to experience what her family endured.
Through her work with other families and associated agencies, Helen discovered that the system has remained unchanged since her husband's death and as a result she is engaging in activities that develop and improve support networks for families and individuals following a workplace fatality.
